HENRYETTA — Give a good team too many extra possessions, and it’ll beat you every time. The Savanna Bulldogs learned that lesson the hard way.
The Eufaula Ironheads used a combination of offensive rebounds and Savanna turnovers to gut out a 33-31 victory in the first round of the Henryetta Invitational Tournament on Tuesday.
With the game tied 31-31 late and in possession of the ball, Eufaula missed a shot. Savanna had a chance to take the final shot of the game, but a mistake in the back-court led to a turnover and gave Eufaula a chance at a buzzer-beater.
Eufaula missed that shot, but sophomore Daxton Williams grabbed an offensive rebound and drew a foul with 3.6 seconds left in the game. Williams then sank both free throws, putting the Ironheads up by two.
