HENRYETTA — Weleetka Lady Outlaws coach Chris Ray said it best: the Savanna Lady Bulldogs “punched us in the mouth, and we didn’t respond very well.”
Savanna’s punishing defense helped it build a 13-point lead in the first quarter, and the Lady Dawgs never looked back, beating the Lady Outlaws in the first round of the Henryetta Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, 65-23.
After two free throws by each team tied the score 2-2, Savanna went on a 17-2 run through the rest of the first quarter. Savanna forward Sierra Loud broke the tie with a fast-break lay-up, then Cierra Graham stole a Weleetka pass, eventually grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring to make it 6-2.
“That’s something that we’ve been working on, and I feel like they’re getting better,” Inman said of her team’s performance on the offensive glass.
