McALESTER — McAlester senior Zach Skimbo began playing basketball competitively in the third grade at Tannehill. He said before Friday’s home game against Broken Bow that his father coached him when he was younger, and that he joined the Buffaloes in the ninth grade.
Always a point guard, Skimbo said his earliest memories are of the three-point shooting common to his position.
“It was in the Kiowa tournament against Frink (Chambers),” Skimbo said of his first three-pointer, which came in the third grade. “I was pretty ecstatic. I banked it too, so it was really nothing but luck.”
Skimbo has grown considerably since those early days. Not just physically — he’s now well over six feet tall — but also mentally.
