McALESTER — McAlester starting pitcher Mason Ross struck out nine in a complete seven-inning game, helping the Buffaloes beat the Shawnee Wolves in a key district matchup Tuesday in Shawnee.
The win gave both teams identical 9-1 district records, with McAlester getting the tiebreaker because of its win.
McAlester’s offense came in the top of the fourth, when Dalton Wood and Brandon Green led off with back-to-back singles. Wood eventually scored on an outfield error, then Green scored on a passed ball.
McAlester and Shawnee both have four district games remaining this season. For McAlester, they’ll be the last four games of the regular season: a double header at Western Heights on Monday; a home game against Coweta on Tuesday; and a home game against Shawnee on May 3.
Pryor trails McAlester and Shawnee by just one game with a 9-2 district record. The top two teams in each district get to host regional tournament.
