Kiowa lost 7-3 to Caddo on Thursday. The Cowgirls next play in the Moss Tournament starting Thursday.
McAlester’s tennis teams were at Ada over the weekend, the Lady Buffs competing Friday and the Buffs competing Saturday. The Buffs had the better showing, finishing tied for ninth with 24 team points.
Both of the Buffs’ doubles teams won their first-round matches, but then lost in the quarter-finals and semifinals to drop to their respective seventh-place games. One-doubles team Sam DeNike and Chance Sistrunk defeated Byng’s Neil and Kai Jorgensen in the seventh-place game, 6-1, 1-6, 10-5.
Though Sistrunk is normally the Buffs’ one-singles player, coach Chad Waller said he wanted to try Sistrunk at doubles because of how inconsistently his doubles teams have played this season. This also allowed him to experiment with other players in his lineup, such as moving Borengasser to one-singles and Redman at to-singles.
“I promised Chance I was going to let him play some doubles,” Waller said.
In two-doubles, Edmond North’s Anderson and Hanska defeated McAlester’s Kolten Koonce and Ben Domingue for seventh place.
In one-singles, Eric Borengasser lost in the first round but won the rest of the way, beating Byng’s Caleb Shaw in the consolation championship, 6-3, 6-4.
In two-singles, Ben Redman lost all of his matches, falling to Shawnee’s Jonny Stobbe in the 15th-place match, 6-0, 6-1.
None of the Lady Buffs won in the first round, but Preziosita Crawford won the consolation bracket in two-singles. She beat Byng’s Kalina Popova in the final round, 6-1, 6-3.
Jennifer Amy and Rayne Key finished 10th in one-doubles, losing to Broken Arrow’s Craig and Dabny in the ninth-place match, 7-5, 6-0.
Krystal Hixson finished 13th in one-singles, beating Byng’s Hannah Fortner, 6-1, 6-3. Sydney Creager and Parker Tidwell finished 14th in two-doubles, losing to Byng’s Wishbauer and Williams, 6-2, 6-4.
