McALESTER — The most recent Tuesday Night Jackpot brought both regular anglers and newcomers to Lake Eufaula Cove, as 38 men and women vied for $360 in bass-fishing prize money. And while longtimers John Huggins, Jimmy Bollinger and Lester “Ripper” Wray went home happy, perhaps no one went home happier than 8-year-old Paxon Presley of Shawnee.
Competing in his first-ever fishing tournament, Paxson won the TNJ youth division, taking home a $25 gift certificate. Huggins and Bollinger won the adult division for the second week in a row and third time this season, while Wray took second.
Paxson won with a sand bass weighing 1.6 pounds. Huggins and Bollinger brought in two sand bass — the limit for TNJ — that weighed a combined 6.48 pounds, earning first place and $250.
With so many contestants this week, TNJ organizer Wray was able to give out two places. As luck would have it, Wray’s two bass weighing a combined 6.05 pounds earned him and boat-mate Sandy Gragg $110 and second place.
