McALESTER — Sure, McAlester senior and basketball standout Kaleisha Johnson had scholarship offers from several different schools. But with former Lady Buffalo coach Crystal Robinson at the helm and former Lady Buff LaShanda Green already there, Murray State College in Tishomingo may have always had the inside edge.
Johnson signed with Murray State on Friday at McAlester High School.
“It felt good,” Johnson said. “The pressure was released.”
Robinson last coached Johnson three years, when Johnson was a freshman at MHS. The 2010 Lady Buffs won a state title in 2010, and Johnson said that year she started to really believe she could someday play college ball.
“I just thought about how comfortable I’d feel,” Johnson said of Murray State. “At other schools I wouldn’t know anybody, and I didn’t really want to have to make new friends or anything. I have Coach Robinson, and I’m comfortable with her, and I already have a few friends there and family members, too.”
