McAlester tennis sweeps Freeze Out

McALESTER — If McAlester’s performance at its season-opening Freeze Out tournament is any indication, this could be a special year for the Buffaloes and Lady Buffs tennis teams. Taking first in four individual divisions, McAlester won both the boys’ and girls’ team competitions on Friday.

For the Buffs, Senior Ngoc Nguyen won in boys’ first singles and junior Chance Sistrunk won in second singles. For the Lady Buffs, senior Lori Medina won in girls’ second singles, and Jennifer Amy and Parker won in first doubles.

Zach Dugan and Sam DeNike took fourth place in first doubles to give the Buffs some extra points, and Eric Borengasser and Taeam Kang took fifth in second doubles. Junior Krystal Hixson took second in first singles, and April Calistro and Precious Crawford took fourth in second doubles to add to the Lady Buffs’ total score.

“The kids really played well and I’m very proud of them,” McAlester coach Chad Waller said in a post-game text message. “We started off the day a little shaky in some positions but really finished strong.”
