Senior class leads Buffs baseball

McALESTER — McAlester’s baseball program lost a lot of talent at the end of the 2012 season. Nine seniors graduated, having helped lead the Buffaloes to a 30-10 season and a trip to the state semifinals.

A year later, a new senior class looks ready to take over.

“We’re expecting major contributions from all seven seniors, whether it be on the field or leadership in the locker room,” Buffs coach Jackie Cumbie said Thursday.

Pitcher Wyatt Beshears leads the 2013 senior class. Beshears is one of several Buffaloes to have started since he was a sophomore.

“We’re expecting him to be the number one pitcher on the mound, to eat up a lot innings and be the guy that can go shut down other teams,” Cumbie said of Beshears.

The Buffs open their season against Ada on Thursday at Mike Deak Field at 5 p.m.
