YUKON — McAlester senior Zach Skimbo jumped 6-foot-6 on his first attempt, beating Tahlequah's Brandon Conrad for the state high jump title at the 5A Track & Field State Championships on Friday at Yukon High School.
Starting at 5-8 and adding two inches with each new round, Skimbo didn't miss a jump until he failed to jump 6-8. Conrad couldn't jump 6-8 either, but because Conrad had missed already and Skimbo had no misses, Skimbo won the event, setting a personal best in the process.
In the boys' long jump Saturday, Buffs junior Caden Pratt took fourth with a jump of 22-1.75. In the girls 300 hurdles, Lady Buffs Casey Jones took second and third, respectively.
