McALESTER — Unity seems to be the key to McAlester athletics. The philosophies, coaching styles and plays taught to the junior high teams don’t differ all that much from those used at the varsity level.
By the time those Jr. Buffs move on to McAlester High School, they already know how to be a Buffalo.
“Anything that they do at the high school level, we kind of tweak it back a little bit and just try to get them ready for it,” McAlester junior high athletic director John Homer said Friday.
“For us to have good programs in all the sports, I think we really have to be in line with the high school coaches.”
Homer has been the junior high athletic director for eighth years. Graduating from MHS in 1977, Homer has worked for the McAlester school system since 1985.
