McALESTER — Representatives from the 98 schools in Region 6 of the Oklahoma Coches Association on April 14 voted McAlester’s Tommy Rogers as regional wrestling coach of the year, while Chad Waller was selected as the All-State tennis coach.
In just his first year coaching at McAlester — or anywhere, for that matter — Rogers helped the Buffs produce four qualifiers to the state meet. That made the 2012-13 wrestling season the most successful in 20 years, and that was before Donald Cannon won a state championship in February.
McAlester senior Loretta Medina was voted Region 6 Female Athlete of the Year. Medina played volleyball and tennis for Waller for four years.
Quinton’s Chad Gragg was voted regional track coach of the year.
