McALESTER — The McAlester Buffaloes have spent the last few weeks getting used to their new artificial turf field at Hook Eales Stadium.
Wagoner, Pryor and Fort Gibson will get to be the first three away teams to try it out when they come to McAlester for today’s scrimmage.
The eighth-grade scrimmage will start at 4 p.m. today, with Wagoner, McAlester and Fort Gibson holding a three-way scrimmage. Once the freshmen games begin at 5 p.m., Pratt said all four schools will play simultaneously.
“We’ll have two games going at once from the 40 (yard line) in on both ends, with two referee crews and two sets of chains,” Pratt said. “So if you get a first down, you keep going until you score. If not, then the other team gets the ball, you turn the ball over. So you’re basically playing a game from the 40, minus special teams.”
Pratt said a special teams session will run between the junior varsity and varsity games, which will start at approximately 6 and 7 p.m., respectively. The varsity will play two 30-minute games, while the other squads will play 20-minute games.
