Cheyenne Selman pitched a no-hitter in Thursday’s season-opening 6-0 win against Shawnee, but the Lady Buffs lost to Red Oak on Friday, 1-0.

McAlester bounced back to beat Wilburton on Monday, 4-0, and went to Edison Preparatory in Tulsa on Tuesday.

McAlester’s volleyball team lost its opener to Sapulpa, 3-0, on Thursday at Bob Brumley Gymnasium in McAlester. The Lady Buffs went to a

tournament in Tahlequah Sequoyah on Saturday, and though the Lady Buffs twice won individual games, the match victory eluded them both times.

The Lady Buffs lost 2-1 to both Okay and Westville in the tournament, then lost 2-0 to Oologah-Talala. They next play at Bixby on Thursday.

The Hornets are off to a strong start in this fall baseball season. After beating Moss on Aug. 12, 7-0, Stuart went to the Red Oak Eagle Classic over the weekend, going 2-1 and finishing second.

Stuart opened its tournament with a 7-6 win against Buffalo Valley on Thursday, then beat Cameron in Friday’s semifinal, 11-3. Stuart lost to Red Oak in Saturday’s championship, 15-0, but that’s to be expected against the defending Class B  state champions.

The Lady Hornets also started strong, winning their first four games before falling to Allen on Thursday, 5-1. Stuart bounced back to win both of its games at the Weleetka Festival on Saturday, 11-1 against Wetumka and 14-2 against Dewar.
