HARTSHORNE — Each time one of their names was called for an award at Saturday’s Oklahoma Football Coaches Association Southeast Regional Powerlifting Meet at Taylor Gymnasium in Hartshorne, the Stilwell Indians tried to get loud.
The McAlester Buffaloes quieted them down in a hurry.
Led by Caden Pratt and Devin Rolan, the Buffaloes scored 119 overall points, beating Stilwell and winning both the 5A and large-school regional championships.
Pratt, Rolan and seven other Buffs powerlifters all qualified for Friday’s OFBCA State Powerlifting Meet at McLoud High School.
With his sites set firmly on a state championship, Pratt dominated in the 132-pound weight class, lifting a combined 1,095 pounds between a squat, bench press and deadlift. Pratt earned top honors in both the lightweight squat, where he lifted 405 pounds, and lightweight deadlift, where he lifted 480 and tied a state record.
In the small school division, Hartshorne junior Dallas Herring lifted 1,055 total pounds and won the 168-pound weight class.
