McALESTER — Kyle McDonald moved from Yukon to McAlester at the age of 5. His father worked in the oil industry, and the family moved when a new job offer came around.
McDonald started playing baseball when he moved here, and he can still remember the first double-play he turned, back when he was 8.
“The ground ball was hit to me, and then I tagged the player that was running to second base, and then I just threw it to first,” McDonald said.
The youth team McDonald played for when he turned that double-play was called the Texas Rangers. Coincidentally, McDonald said the Rangers are his favorite MLB team, with their shortstop Elvis Andrus as his favorite player because both Andrus and McDonald played shortstop.
