McALESTER — Blame it on laziness — or too many activities. Blame it on a lack of youth programs — or youth programs too focused on competition.
Blame it on the rising popularity of basketball and the loss of multi-sport athletes.
Whatever the cause, across most of the Pitt 8 Conference, fewer kids are turning out for baseball and slow-pitch softball. Of the 16 baseball and softball teams across the eight Pitt 8 schools, only four saw their numbers go up from last season.
