Weekend Update: Lady Buffs losing streak ends

(Continued)

McALESTER —

McAlester:

The McAlester Lady Buffaloes finally got Cheyenne Selman back into the pitcher’s circle, and with Selman’s return the Lady Buffs returned to their winning ways. Selman struck out 13 in Monday’s district finale at Bishop Kelley in Tulsa, helping McAlester win 5-0.

The Lady Buffs, who came into Monday’s game on a 12-game losing streak, played at Sallisaw on Tuesday and finish their season Thursday at Tahlequah before heading to Regionals. The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association will announce its 5A softball regional sites today.

McAlester’s volleyball team beat the Oklahoma School for the Deaf on Sept. 24, 3-0, then lost at Norman on Monday, 3-0, to end their regular season with a 5-17 record. The Lady Buffs head to Regionals on Tuesday, but the OSSAA hasn’t yet announced locations.

After dominating Noble on Friday, the Buffaloes get back to work preparing for this Friday’s Homecoming game against Shawnee. The Oklahoman ranked the district game second in the state for Week 5, and the Buffs have announced a “blackout” theme for the game, encouraging fans to wear black clothing to Hook Eales Stadium.

Pittsburg:

The Panthers lost to both Stuart and Tupelo at Thursday’s district baseball tournament at Stuart. Pittsburg lost 13-0 to Stuart  to finish 0-12.

The Lady Panthers also ended their season at Stuart, losing 12-2 and 17-2 on Thursday to finish 1-11.

Quinton:

The Lady Savages lost 2-1 to Keota and 5-4 to host-team Porum at Districts on Sept. 24, ending their softball season 6-17.

Quinton’s cheerleading squad competed Saturday at the 2A OSSAA Cheerleading State Championship at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. The Lady Savages scored 234 total points, finishing fifth out of 18 schools.

Having lost at Talihina on Friday, Quinton’s football team prepares for Central Sallisaw in Week 5.

Savanna:

Receiving a bye in the first round of the playoffs, Savanna’s softball postseason begins Thursday at 12 p.m. against host-team Ketchum at Regionals. The Lady Bulldogs will compete against Ketchum, Wyandotte and Colcord in a double-elimination tournament, the winner advancing to the 2A state tournament.
