McALESTER — Ongoing construction at Hook Eales Stadium has forced the McAlester track team to look elsewhere for places to train. But that hasn’t stopped the Buffs from putting together a fairly successful season, which wraps up Friday at Wagoner.
Caden Pratt has been a star for the Buffaloes, winning the boys’ high jump in four different meets. Pratt set a season-best at Durant on April 9, when he jumped 21 feet, 2 inches. Bryan Pratt, Buffs football coach and Caden’s father, said Caden last ran track in junior high.
For the Lady Buffs, Casey Jones has dominated as expected. Jones already has two first-place finishes in the 100 hurdles, two firsts in the 300 hurdles and two first in the long jump this season.
Jones also put up five second- or third-place finishes in those events, plus two top-four finishes in the pole vault.
Pratt, Jones, Shattee Robinson and Kyler Thompson are among those coach Richard Carney said he expects to qualify for State at the regional meet on May 4 at Tahlequah.
