Stuart steals way past Indianola

McALESTER — The Stuart Lady Hornets stole 11 bases and took seven more on passed balls and wild pitches, overwhelming the Indianola Warriorettes, 15-2, at the Pittsburg County Softball Complex in McAlester.

he Lady Hornets started stealing bases two batters into the bottom of the first, when Cierra Chapman got on via a hit-by-pitch. With Megan Jernigen at the plate, Chapman stole second, then stole third, then came home on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead.

Chapman added RBI singles in the second and third, finishing the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.

With the bases clear, Jernigen walked and stole her way to third, then Emilee Beck drew a walk and stole second. Jernigen tried to come home on a grounder to third by Jessie Jones, but third baseman Katelyn Oxford fielded and quickly threw to catcher Ashley Clark, who applied the tag.

Oxford’s throw saved a run, but after Jones stole second, Kylie Jernigen singled to left to score both Beck and Jones for a 3-0 lead. Jernigen went to third on a stolen base and a passed ball; Kayla Smith drew a walk; then Krystin Wilson ended the inning by smashing a two-run single into center field for a 5-0 lead.
