McALESTER — It took jumps and kicks, spins and splits, but when it was all over, McAlester High School had its 2013-14 pom squad. Tryouts took place Friday at Bob Brumley Gymnasium, and 12 of the 14 dancers made the squad.
Dancers could earn up to 10 points in each of seven individual elements at the tryout, then up to 50 from their longer dance routine. Coach Yvonne Allford said all dancers who scored above the first "natural break" in the scores — she wouldn't be more specific than that — would make the team.
Next year's team will feature nine pom veterans, including co-captains Kaylee Harvanek and Cambrea Lott and incoming junior Allison Furlong, and three newcomers: incoming sophomore Amber Lenington and incoming freshmen Lainey Lordahl and Camryn Powers
