Jaci Bigham wraps career at ORU

McALESTER — Everything was going great for women’s basketball player Jacilyn Bigham through her first two years at McAlester High School. She’d already won S.E. Conference MVP twice, and Division I colleges were starting to give her some serious attention.

Bigham’s career hit a roadblock during her 2007-08 junior year, when she tore her anterior cruciate ligament and damaged a plethora of other ligaments and tendons in her left knee. Such injuries always come with long rehab periods, and as Bigham’s went on, many prospective schools backed away.

But not Oral Roberts University.

“When I did injure myself my junior year, they were the only team that stayed true to everything they said before,” Bigham said Tuesday.

Oral Roberts was the only school whose actions didn’t make her feel “like I was damaged goods,” she said. Wanting to repay ORU for its loyalty, Bigham joined the Golden Eagles, verbally committing to the team in the summer before her senior year.
