McALESTER — McAlester’s freshmen boys’ track and field team scored 144 team points, winning the Wilburton track meet on Tuesday. Six freshmen combined to place third or higher in 11 different events.
Results were provided by Buffs head track coach Richard Carney.
Brayden Klusak led the Buffs, winning three individual events. He won the long jump with a jump of 18 feet and 6 inches, the 100-meter run in 11.3 seconds, and the 200-meter run in 23.48 seconds.
“Klusak’s going to be an animal in track,” Carney said. “He’s had some really good times for a freshman.”
Klusak was also part of a four-man team that won the 1600-meter relay, though the final time was not released. Stone Adams, Colin Smith and Ra’shaad Rushing comprised the other three relay racers.
Smith placed in three individual events. He won the 300 hurdles in 49.3 seconds, placed second in the 100 hurdles in 17.17 seconds and placed second in the 800 meter in 2 minutes, 28 seconds.
Smith was also part of the 3200-meter relay, which he ran with Parker Elliot, Adams and Tanner Coffee. The group won that race in 10:41.
Along with two relay wins, Adams won the 3200-meter run in 12:19 and the 800 meter in 2:25.
Rushing won the high jump, jumping 5-6, and took third in the 100 meter, finishing in 12.65 seconds. Elliot took second in the 1600 meter, finishing in 5:50, and third in the 3200 meter, finishing in 12:34.
The Lady Buffs scored 41 team points but didn’t place. Bryn Vaughan won the 100 meter in 13.93 seconds, took second in the 200 meter in 29.9 seconds and third in the 400 meter in 1:10.
Vaughan was also part of McAlester’s 4x200-meter relay, which finished third. Katelyn Ferrell, Ashley Taylor and Reagan Hearod also ran that relay, but the final time was not released.
Taylor also won the 200 meter in 28.9 seconds.
McAlester’s varsity is at the Okmulgee track meet today, which is being held in Sapulpa because Okmulgee’s track is under construction.
