McALESTER — Among the local small schools, only the Hartshorne Miners and Crowder Demons remained in the postseason heading into Thursday’s regional baseball tournaments. Both teams went 1-2 at their regionals, ending their postseasons.
Crowder hosted a Class 2A regional, losing to top seed Tushka 10-0 on Thursday. Crowder came back to beat Oktaha in the consolation semifinals Friday, 7-6 in eight innings, but then lost to Talihina in the consolation finals, 10-0.
Tushka then beat Talihina, 5-0, to win the tournament and advance to State.
Hartshorne started Thursday’s action in Spiro with an 8-7 win against Stigler, but then lost 11-0 to Spiro, the fourth-ranked team in Class 3A, in the semifinals. Stigler beat Eufaula in the consolation semifinals on Friday, setting up a rematch against Hartshorne in the consolation finals.
The Miners couldn’t repeat their magic from a day earlier, losing to the Panthers on Friday, 4-2. Spiro played Stigler in the regional championship on Saturday, with Stigler needing to beat Spiro twice to advance to state.
