Midweek Update: Pitt 8 baseball tournament begins

McALESTER — A few teams played over Spring Break, while many others got back to work Monday. See below for all local sports scores, as reported to OSSAARankings.com.

Canadian:

The Cougars lost 20-14 to Savanna in Monday’s first-round game of the Pitt 8 baseball tournament. They played Haileyville in the consolation championship Tuesday and next play at Wilson-Henryetta on Thursday.

The Lady Cougars 6-5 to Midway on Monday. They next play Thursday at home against Eufaula.

Crowder:

The Demons went 1-3 last week, losing 3-2 to Seminole and 4-3 to Stilwell on March 19. They beat Kellyville 5-2 but then lost 6-1 to Morris at Friday’s Preston Festival.

Crowder rebounded with two lopsided victories in the Pitt 8 Tournament on Monday. They beat Indianola 9-0 and Kiowa 16-4, then played Stuart in the championship Tuesday.

Crowder’s baseball season continues with the Crowder Tournament on Thursday. In slowpitch, the Demonettes beat Calvin 15-0 on Monday, played Haileyville on Tuesday and next play a three-way series against Stuart and Kiowa this Monday.

Haileyville:

The Warriors lost Monday’s first-round game of the Pitt 8 Tournament, 10-0, but came back to beat Indianola in the consolation semifinals, 8-6. They played Canadian in the consolation championship Tuesday and next play Kinta on Thursday.

The Lady Warriors’ slowpitch season started Tuesday against Pittsburg and Crowder. They next play Thursday at Indianola.

Hartshorne:

The Miners’ four-game winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss to Oktaha on Thursday, but they responded by winning their next three game. They beat Muldrow 9-7 on Thursday, Antlers 14-2 on Friday and Heavener 8-0 on Monday.

The Miners next play Thursday at the Crowder Tournament. The Lady Miners played Heavener on Tuesday and next play Wister on Thursday.

Indianola:

The Warriors exited the Pitt 8 baseball tournament after back-to-back losses, falling 9-0 to Crowder and then 8-6 to Haileyville on Monday. They next play Thursday against Kinta.

The Warriorettes beat Pittsburg 12-2 but then lost to Kiowa 10-0 on Monday. They played Stuart on Tuesday and next play LeFlore on Thursday.

Kiowa:

The Cowboys went 1-1 at the Pitt 8 Tournament on Monday, beating Haileyville 10-0 but losing to Crowder 16-4 in the semifinals. Kiowa played Savanna in the third-place game Tuesday and next plays Thursday at the Crowder Tournament.

The Cowgirls beat Indianola 10-0 and Pittsburg 12-2 on Monday. They played Savanna on Tuesday and next play Thursday at the Stonewall Tournament.

McAlester:

The Buffs lost both games at the Shawnee Festival, losing 5-3 to Binger-Oney on Thursday and 4-3 to Bishop McGuiness on Friday. They next play Thursday against Booker T. Washington at the Tiger/Zebra Classic at Claremore.

Both the Buffs and Lady Buffs finished runner-up at the McAlester Freeze Out tennis tournament Monday. For the Buffs, Chance Sistrunk won one-singles, Eric Borengasser won two singles, Kolten Koonce and Sam DeNike took fourth in one-doubles and the Buffs got fifth in two-doubles.

For the Lady Buffs, Krystal Hixson won one-singles, Preziosita Crawford won two-singles, Jennifer Amy and Rayne Key finished third in one-doubles and the Lady Buffs got fifth in two-doubles.

The McAlester Team Tennis Tournament will take place Friday.

McAlester’s soccer teams played Ada at home Tuesday. They next play Thursday at a tournament in Stilwell.

McAlester’s freshmen track teams were at Wilburton on Tuesday. The whole team competes Friday at Okmulgee.

Buffs golf was in Owasso on Tuesday and next plays Monday in Shawnee. The Lady Buffs are at Stroud on Thursday.

Pittsburg:

The Lady Panthers lost 12-2 to Indianola and 12-2 to Kiowa on Monday. Pittsburg played Crowder and Haileyville on Tuesday and next play Thursday at Stringtown.

The Panthers have yet to play a baseball game this season and dropped out of the Pitt 8 tournament due to a lack of numbers.

Quinton:

Quinton’s baseball game against Panama on Monday was canceled for undisclosed reasons. The Savages next play Thursday at the Weleetka Tournament.

The Lady Savages lost all three games at Friday’s Red Oak Festival, falling 9-5 to McCurtain, 14-0 to Red Oak and 4-0 to Caney. They played Stigler on Tuesday and next play in the Red Oak Tournament starting Thursday.

Savanna:

The Bulldogs beat Canadian 20-14 in the first round of the Pitt 8 Tournament, but then lost 8-5 to Stuart in the semifinals Monday. They played Kiowa for third place on Tuesday and next play Dewar at the Weleetka Tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs won’t compete in Tuesday’s Pitt 8 slowpitch tournament, and it’s unlikely they’ll field a team this season. Savanna’s track team will be at Wilburton on Thursday and Henryetta on Friday, and its boys’ golf team next competes Tuesday at Clary Fields in Sapulpa.

Stuart:

Though the Hornets lost 10-2 to Heavener on March 18, they beat Roland 2-0 that same day. They then Kinta 15-2 and Calvin 15-3 on March 19.

Stuart beat Savanna 8-5 in the Pitt 8 Tournament semifinals Monday and played Crowder in the championship Tuesday. The Hornets next plays Thursday against Coalgate.

The Lady Hornets lost 3-2 to New Lima on Monday. They played Indianola on Tuesday and next play in the Stonewall Tournament starting Thursday.

Wilburton:

The Diggers are on a six-game losing streak dating back to March 13. They lost 9-4 to Okemah on Wednesday, 11-5 to Preston on Friday, 11-1 to Henryetta on Saturday and 10-0 to Pocola on Monday.

The Diggers next play Thursday at the Crowder Tournament. The Lady Diggers played Porum on Tuesday and next play Panola in the Hartshorne Festival on Thursday.
