Midweek Update: Pitt 8 baseball tournament begins

McALESTER — A few teams played over Spring Break, while many others got back to work Monday. See below for all local sports scores, as reported to OSSAARankings.com.

Canadian:

The Cougars lost 20-14 to Savanna in Monday’s first-round game of the Pitt 8 baseball tournament. They played Haileyville in the consolation championship Tuesday and next play at Wilson-Henryetta on Thursday.

The Lady Cougars 6-5 to Midway on Monday. They next play Thursday at home against Eufaula.

Crowder:

The Demons went 1-3 last week, losing 3-2 to Seminole and 4-3 to Stilwell on March 19. They beat Kellyville 5-2 but then lost 6-1 to Morris at Friday’s Preston Festival.

Crowder rebounded with two lopsided victories in the Pitt 8 Tournament on Monday. They beat Indianola 9-0 and Kiowa 16-4, then played Stuart in the championship Tuesday.

Crowder’s baseball season continues with the Crowder Tournament on Thursday. In slowpitch, the Demonettes beat Calvin 15-0 on Monday, played Haileyville on Tuesday and next play a three-way series against Stuart and Kiowa this Monday.

Haileyville:

The Warriors lost Monday’s first-round game of the Pitt 8 Tournament, 10-0, but came back to beat Indianola in the consolation semifinals, 8-6. They played Canadian in the consolation championship Tuesday and next play Kinta on Thursday.

The Lady Warriors’ slowpitch season started Tuesday against Pittsburg and Crowder. They next play Thursday at Indianola.

Hartshorne:

The Miners’ four-game winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss to Oktaha on Thursday, but they responded by winning their next three game. They beat Muldrow 9-7 on Thursday, Antlers 14-2 on Friday and Heavener 8-0 on Monday.

The Miners next play Thursday at the Crowder Tournament. The Lady Miners played Heavener on Tuesday and next play Wister on Thursday.

Indianola:

The Warriors exited the Pitt 8 baseball tournament after back-to-back losses, falling 9-0 to Crowder and then 8-6 to Haileyville on Monday. They next play Thursday against Kinta.

    Megan Jernigen’s two-run inside-the-park home run gave the Stuart Lady Hornets the only lead they’d need, eventually beating the McAlester Lady Buffaloes 3-1 Thursday at the Pittsburg County Softball Complex in McAlester.

    The World Softball League so enjoyed its “Bash for Bats” tournament July 12 at the Pittsburg County Softball Complex in McAlester that it’s decided to come back for the WSL Jersey Showdown Softball Tourney on Aug. 30 at the Softball Complex.
