STUART — New Stuart coach Jon Booth finds himself in an enviable position. He’s taking over for Randy Bowen, who spent his six years building a strong baseball tradition at Stuart that included disciplined players, well-maintained facilities and a team that went to the 2012 fall baseball tournament.
“I inherited a good club,” Booth said.
“Coach Bowen actually coached against me when I was in high school. ... I knew the guys would have everything in place to be successful.”
The talented Hornets’ roster begins with senior Dillon Lawrence, the Pitt 8 Baseball Player of the Year last spring. He’ll be the team’s ace on the mound, bat second in the lineup and also play some shortstop.
“Dillon definitely has the best stuff, overall raw stuff,” Booth said. “Throws the hardest, best breaking ball.”
