KREBS — Jeff McClendon’s bases-clearing triple capped a five-run top of the fourth for the Muckdogs, and Ethan West struck out Mudhens hitter Austin Kirby with the bases loaded to give the Muckdogs a five-inning upset win, 9-6, in Saturday's second-round game of the Pittsburg County Little League AAA tournament at Deerinwater Field in Krebs.
The Muckdogs drew 11 walks against Mudhens pitchers Saturday, including three by Max Noel and two by Braden Lynch, the team’s nine- and 10-hole hitters. Noel and Lynch walked to start the top of the fourth with the game tied 3-3, then leadoff hitter Avery Williams singled to right field.
The Mudhens almost threw Noel out at the plate, but catcher Dylan Sensibaugh couldn’t complete the relay and the ball bounced away onto the grass, putting the Muckdogs up 4-3. Caden McElhaney then bounced one into the infield, and though the Mudhens got it to Ayden Parent, Parent wasn’t standing on the bag, allowing Sensibaugh to reach.
Parent tried to throw home to catch Lynch, but Lynch beat the tag and put the Muckdogs up 5-3. After a fielder’s choice erased Williams at third, Ethan West walked to load the bases, Kaden Cusher singled to drive in a run, then two batters later McClendon cleared the bases with a triple down the first base line, making it 8-3 Muckdogs.
