McALESTER — McAlester turned eight Stigler errors into eight unearned runs, and the Buffs went on to win their first game of Thursday’s doubleheader at Mike Deak Field, 10-4.
Down a run going into the bottom of the first, Taylor Mullins got the Buffs’ offense going with his feet. Mullins reached first by beating out a grounder that second baseman Wade Henderson bobbled, then sprinted all the way to third on a single by Brandon Green.
When Stigler pitcher Cameron Highfill bounced one past catcher Quantez Jim, Mullins raced home and beat the throw to the plate to tie the game 1-1.
An RBI double by Chad Meadows scored Green to put McAlester up 2-1, then McAlester scored twice more on back-to-back infield errors. The Buffs scored three more runs on four more errors in the bottom of third — more than enough for starting pitcher Green.
Green pitched all five innings, giving up four runs — one earned — on five hits, a walk and nine strikeouts. Both he and Mullins had two hits and an RBI, scoring a combined four runs
