Midweek Update: Kiowa sweeps Pitt 8 Conference

McALESTER — Despite it snowing Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, most local basketball teams found a way to get at least a couple of games in during this past week. For Class A and B schools about to start district tournaments, it’s especially critical to not get too long a break heading into the postseason.

The following scores reported to OSSAARankings.com.

Canadian:

The Cougars beat Savanna 52-43 on Feb. 4, then beat Pittsburg 59-47 on Monday. The Lady Cougars lost 51-27 to Savanna and 55-26 to Pittsburg.

Canadian wrapped up its regular season Tuesday against Dewar. Class 2A district tournaments start Feb. 21, which for Canadian will be at Dale.

Crowder:

Crowder’s games against Savanna on Friday were canceled due to inclement weather. That meant Crowder took a 12-day break into Tuesday’s games at Hanna, the Demons and Demonettes last having played Jan. 30 against Oktaha.

Crowder wraps its regular season Tuesday against Tushka. Class 2A district tournaments start Feb. 21, which for Crowder will be at Hartshorne.

Haileyville:

Haileyville lost Friday’s games at Stuart to inclement weather, then lost both of Monday’s games at Kiowa by 40 points or more. The Warriors lost 73-33 to Kiowa, and the Lady Warriors lost 76-31.

The Warriors-Cowboys game was a chance for revenge after the Pitt 8 Tournament semi-finals, when Haileyville upset Kiowa. With its wins, Kiowa secured both boys’ and girls’ conference titles.

Haileyville wrapped its regular season Tuesday at Pittsburg. Haileyville’s district tournament starts Friday against Clayton at Stuart.

Hartshorne:

The Miners rescheduled their Jan. 4 games against Stigler to Thursday, and it definitely paid off. They beat Stigler 43-49, then beat Wilburton 55-42 on Friday.

The Lady Miners lost 43-31 to Stigler but came back and beat Wilburton in overtime, 63-59. In a rivalry known as the “Battle of Gowen Mountain,” the Miners went 3-0 against Wilburton this season, while the Lady Miners went 1-1.
