ORES Area tourneys start Saturday

McALESTER — The Organization of Rural Elementary Schools kicks off its area tournaments Saturday.

Pittsburg County has boys and girls competing in all four divisions.

In Division I, Frink-Chambers will compete in Area III. The Lady Falcons play Brushy at home at 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by the Falcons playing Brushy at 7 p.m.

Woodall plays Lukfata in the other Area III first-round game, with both the boys and girls playing Saturday at Frink-Chambers.

If Frink-Chambers wins, it’ll advance to Tuesday’s area championship. If Frink-Chambers loses, it’ll drop to the losers’ semifinal, playing the loser of Woodall-Lukfata on Tuesday and then playing the loser of the area championship in the consolation finals Feb. 15.

As with all ORES divisions, both the area and area consolation champions will advance to State.

In Division II, Krebs will compete in Area IV. The Lady Eagles play Hodgen in the first round Saturday at Frink-Chambers at 11 a.m., then the Eagles play Moffett on Saturday at Frink-Chambers at 2 p.m.

Liberty is the fourth team in Area IV, its girls playing Moffett in the first round and its boys playing Hodgen, with all first-round games played at Frink-Chambers. Liberty will host the losers’ semifinal Monday, the area final Tuesday and the area consolation final Feb. 15.

In Division III, Tannehill will compete in Area III. The Lady Braves play Swink in the first round Saturday at Grant at 12 p.m., then the Braves play Swink at 1 p.m.

First-round winners will play be at Grant on Monday for the semifinals, while first-round losers will be eliminated. Frink-Chambers will host the area championship and consolation semifinals Feb. 14 and the area consolation finals Feb. 15.

Monroe, Shady Point and Belfonte comprise the other half of Area III. The losers of the area semifinals will drop into the consolation semifinals, the winner of which will play the loser of the area championship in the consolation finals.
