Lakewood Christian wins state JH basketball championship

McALESTER —

The Lakewood Christian Lions’ junior high team beat Harvest Hills 48-35 in the Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletic Association Class 2A state championship Saturday at Destiny Christian School in Del City. The Lions outscored the Knights 23-6 in the first quarter, then held on through the remaining three to win the championship. 

Chase McGuire scored 20 points for the Lions, knocking down four 3-pointers. Marshall Davis scored 14 and Clayton Spears scored 12. 

Evan Dozier grabbed nine rebounds; Spears six. 

Lakewood also beat Parkview Adventist by forfeit in the quarter-finals Jan. 27 and Liberty 38-31 in the semifinals Jan. 30. The Lady Lions also went to the Class 2A state tournament, beating Eagle Point Christian Academy 32-8 but losing to Life Christian Academy 27-16 in the semifinals. 

The state championship comes a year after Lakewood’s high school team won a state title.
