Midweek Update: Hoops season enters final month

McALESTER — Just a handful of basketball games remain before the start of district tournaments for Class A and B teams in Oklahoma. Find out what your school is up to below.

Canadian:

The Cougars lost to Kiowa 73-34 on Jan. 28, but they bounced back to beat McCurtain 53-48 on Thursday and Indianola 65-35 on Friday. The Lady Cougars lost 75-26 to Kiowa and 41-39 to McCurtain, but they beat Indianola 65-35.

Tuesday’s games against Savanna were canceled due to inclement weather. Canadian next plays Monday at Pittsburg.

Crowder:

The Demons and Demonettes got swept last week, losing all four games against Haileyville and Oktaha. The Demons lost 66-58 to Haileyville on Jan. 28 and 74-56 to Oktaha on Thursday.

The Demonettes lost 55-50 to Haileyville and 70-33 to Oktaha. Crowder next plays at Savanna on Friday.

Haileyville:

The Warriors stretched their winning streak to nine with a 66-58 win against Crowder on Jan. 28, but that streak ended Friday with a 48-44 loss to LeFlore. The Warriorettes also went 1-1 last week, beating Crowder 55-50 but losing to LeFlore 55-40.

Haileyville plays at Kiowa on Thursday.

Hartshorne:

The Miners dropped their Jan. 28 game at Talihina, 69-66. Though probably disappointed at missing a chance to beat a ranked Class 2A team, Hartshorne recovered and beat Heavener on Friday, 75-61.

The Lady Miners also lost to Talihina, 61-50, but beat Heavener, 53-52.

With Tuesday’s games at Stigler canceled due to inclement weather, Hartshorne next plays Friday at Wilburton.

Indianola:

The Warriors got swept last week, losing 91-41 to Schulter on Jan. 28 and 65-35 to Canadian on Friday.

No score was reported for the Warriorettes game against Schulter, but they lost 65-35 to Canadian.

Monday’s games at Midway were canceled due to inclement weather. Indianola next plays at Pittsburg on Friday.

Kiowa:

Kiowa swept its games last week, the Cowboys beating Canadian 73-34 on Jan. 28 and Colbert 45-23 on Friday. The Cowgirls beat Canadian 75-26 and Colbert 71-47 and are currently on a 12-game winning streak that includes all games played in 2014.

The Cowgirls, who now boast an 18-3 record, were ranked second in Class A as of Tuesday morning. The Cowboys, 17-4, were ranked 12th.

Tuesday’s games at Caddo were canceled due to inclement weather. Kiowa hosts Haileyville on Thursday, and both the Cowboys and Cowgirls can lock up a Pitt 8 conference title with wins.

McAlester:

The Buffs went 0-2 over the weekend, losing 73-68 in overtime to Broken Bow on Friday and 80-58 to MacArthur on Saturday. The Lady Buffs beat Broken Bow 44-42 but lost to MacArthur 59-40.

Tuesday’s games at Ada were canceled due to inclement weather. McAlester hosts Durant on Tuesday.

Pittsburg:

Pittsburg swept Stringtown on Jan. 28, the Panthers winning 70-42 and the Lady Panthers winning 66-24. The 16-5 Lady Panthers were ranked 18th in Class B as of Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s games at Panola were canceled due to inclement weather. Pittsburg next plays Friday at home against Indianola.

Quinton:

The Savages will enter Friday’s home game against Panama on an eight-game winning streak. Quinton beat Red Oak, the No. 3 boys’ team in Class B, 55-47 on Jan. 28, then beat Clayton on the road 59-49 on Friday.

The Lady Savages lost 48-39 to Red Oak, the No. 2 girls’ team in Class B, but rebounded in dominating fashion, beating Clayton 54-8.

Tuesday’s games against Kinta were canceled due to inclement weather. Quinton next hosts Panama on Friday.

Quinton’s wrestling team took 16th at the Maverick Conference Tournament in Wagoner over the weekend. Jake Lemons lost in the consolation finals of the 152-pound weight class, and Peyton Knell lost in the consolation finals of the 160-pound class.

Savanna:

Stuart swept Savanna on Friday. The Bulldogs lost, 52-37, and the Lady Bulldogs lost, 71-47.

Tuesday’s games at Canadian were canceled due to inclement weather. Savanna next plays Friday at home against Crowder.

Stuart:

Stuart swept last week’s games, with the Hornets beating Moss 72-66 on Jan. 28 and Savanna 52-37 on Friday. The Lady Hornets beat Moss 60-22 and Savanna 71-47.

The 15-3 Hornets were ranked ninth in Class A as of Tuesday morning. The 14-4 Lady Hornets were ranked 20th.

Tuesday’s games against Roff were canceled due to inclement weather. Stuart next plays Thursday at Tupelo.

Wilburton:

The Diggers were swept last week and are currently on a five-game losing streak. Wilburton lost 52-41 to Stigler on Jan. 28 and 62-59 to Pocola on Friday.

The Lady Diggers lost 31-27 to Stigler but beat Pocola 46-30.

Tuesday’s games at Heavener were canceled due to inclement weather. Wilburton next hosts Hartshorne on Friday.
