Midweek Update: Kiowa sweeps Moss Tournament

McALESTER — Most local basketball teams competed in tournaments around the state last week, with several taking home tournament championships. Find your team below.

Canadian:

Canadian got swept in its Jan. 7 games against Stuart, the Lady Cougars losing 77-31 and the Cougars losing 62-46. Canadian played Oktaha Tuesday night and plays Crowder on Friday before starting the Pitt 8 Tournament on Monday.

Crowder:

The Demonettes lost both of their games last week, falling 76-27 to Quinton on Jan. 7 and 55-36 to Hanna on Friday. The Demons lost 66-50 to Quinton but beat Hanna 69-30.

Crowder played Red Oak on Tuesday, plays Canadian on Friday, then starts the Pitt 8 on Monday.

Haileyville:

Haileyville got swept by Kinta on Jan. 7, the Lady Warriors losing 58-28 and the Warriors losing 70-62. But Haileyville rebounded nicely in the Dee Foster Invitational, going a combined 5-1 to win the boys’ championship and the girls’ consolation final.

The Warriors beat Milburn 75-48 on Thursday, Pittsburg 52-42 on Friday and Soper 88-52 in the championship Saturday. The Lady Warriors lost 42-36 to Calvin on Thursday, beat Indianola 52-49 on Friday and beat Wilson 53-51 in the consolation final Saturday.

Haileyville played Panola on Tuesday, hosts Kinta on Friday and starts the Pitt 8 Tournament on Tuesday.

Hartshorne:

The Miners won three of their four games last week, improving to 7-2. They beat Heavener on Jan. 7, 56-48 in overtime, then beat Boswell 61-42 and Calera 70-67 in the Tushka-Ameristate Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

The Miners lost Saturday’s championship to Tushka, 58-49.

The Lady Miners lost 58-32 to Heavener. They lost 45-40 to Tushka in the first round of the Invitational, beat Moyers 56-28 on Friday and beat Boswell 52-22 in the consolation finals Saturday.

Lady Miners coach Danny Stone said Hartshorne forward Danielle Morgan was named to the All-Tournament team.

Hartshorne played Stigler on Tuesday and plays at Allen on Thursday.

Indianola:

The Warriors lost 67-20 to Kiowa on Jan. 7, then went 0-2 at the Dee Foster Invitational. Indianola lost 54-23 to Soper on Thursday, then 45-36 to Calvin on Friday.

    Casey Fernandez, a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi and former golfer for the McAlester Buffaloes, made it all the way to the Oklahoma Golf Association’s State Amateur Championship semifinals before losing to Tulsa-Jenks golfer Preston Crawford on Wednesday at The Patriot Golf Course in Owasso.
