McALESTER — Game times and brackets have been announced for this weekend’s 2014 Oklahoma Little League World Series at LaFortune Park in Tulsa.
With Pittsburg County Little League entering teams in all eight age groups and holding the top seed in three, this year’s World Series could be one of PCLL’s most successful since the league started in 2010.
In the 6-and-under Progressive T-ball tournament, which will be played entirely on Field 3, PCLL plays Tulsa National Little League (TNLL) in the first round at 11 a.m. The winner then plays top-seeded Cherokee County National Little League (CNLL) in the semifinals at 3 p.m.
The semifinal winner advances to the championship, while the loser drops into a consolation final against the first-round loser Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The consolation winner takes the other spot in the championship at 2:30 p.m.
Because the World Series is double-elimination, both teams could have just one loss after the championship game. If that happens, a second championship will be played at 4:30 p.m.
Pittsburg County has earned the top seed in the 7U Coach Pitch tournament, automatically qualifying to a semifinal Saturday at 11:30 a.m. on Field 1 against the winner of the first-round game between the TNLL All Stars and TNLL Titans. The semifinal and first-round losers play Sunday at 12 p.m., then the championship starts at 4 p.m. on Field 1.
If necessary, a second 7U championship game will be played Sunday at 8 p.m. on Field 3.
Top-seeded teams could conceivably capture a state title with just two wins, while second- or third-seeded teams would need at least three.
In the 8U Machine Pitch tournament, which will take place entirely on Field 1, PCLL and CNLL play Saturday at 1:30 p.m., then the winner plays TNLL in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. The consolation final starts Sunday at 2 p.m., followed by the championship at 6 p.m. and an if-necessary second championship at 8 p.m.
