Knockouts win first two tournaments

McALESTER — Right now kids are counting down the number of school days until summer. That excitement is tenfold for the McAlester Knockouts, a 14-and-under summer travel softball team.

For seven years these young ladies have hit the softball fields ready to play the sport they love with teammates they can’t wait to be with from around the state. The Knockouts have 11 girls on the team: three from Savanna; two from Frink-Chambers; and the rest from towns including Wister, Moffitt, Spiro, Owasso and Greenwood, Ark.

The full Knockouts roster is Britton Buckner, Jaycee Cox, Blaire Wilson, Payton Watts, Katelyn Faber, Carly Cox, Megan Low, Emily Tuck, Chandler Spence, Angela Price and Sierra Perdue.

The Knockouts kicked off their summer ball season with a March 16 friendly at Savage Park in Tulsa, where they went 1-2. Katelyn Faber hit a walk-off grand slam — the first of her career — to give the Knockouts a 6-3 win against the Oklahoma Nemesis.

The Knockouts left Savage Park that day a little disappointed but still excited to be back together. So with a couple of practices under their belts, the Knockouts returned to Savage Park two weeks later for the TGSF Bad to the Bone Tournament, which took place March 28-30.

The Knockouts won the Bad to the Bone, going 8-0 and outscoring opponents 56-7. Blaire Wilson’s grand slam helped McAlester beat the Tulsa Elite, 10-3.

It was a great weekend of hitting and awesome defense. The Knockouts left the park feeling like they had played more to their ability, but still had some things to work on.

The Knockouts most recently competed at the TGSF Softball Rocks Tournament from April 11-13, again at Savage Park. The Knockouts went 7-0 to win their second tournament in a row, overcoming a slightly weaker offensive performance with sterling defense to outscore their opponents, 40-2.

The Knockouts are so excited about this summer and all the softball to come!
