McALESTER — Will Holiman played basketball for the Buffaloes from 1994 to 1998. His team won 27 games each year and took home a regional championship his junior year. He went on to work with Amateur Athletic Union basketball, Cooper Fitness in McKinney, Tex., Eastern Oklahoma State College, and as a private basketball instructor, eventually finding his way back to his hometown.
“The basketball program, middle school-wise for the girls, was not good this year,” Holiman said Friday. “(MIddle school) boys were not good. High school boys were not good. The high schools girls were all right.”
So in an effort to rebuild McAlester basketball, Holiman has offered several developmental clinics and camps during the off-season. The latest, a shooting clinic for grades three to six and another for grades seven and eight, finished Friday at the Boys and Girls Club of McAlester Al Horton Special Event Center at Puterbaugh. Holiman said Friday about 35 kids came out for this camp.
