McALESTER — At first glance, McAlester senior Gannon Beck seems like a laid-back dude. He smiles easily, cracks jokes and always appears at ease.
And then Gannon Beck puts on his football gear. Then he becomes one of McAlester’s starting middle linebackers.
Then Beck becomes a monster.
“He’s the hardest hitter that we have on our team,” McAlester coach Bryan Pratt said Saturday. “Man, he’s just always making plays.”
Beck has been hitting hard for the Buffaloes since he joined the varsity as a sophomore. Pratt said Beck’s hits can drive back even the biggest of fullbacks, and that includes Kansas State sophomore Tyler Lockett, whom Beck faced his sophomore year in Week 10 when Lockett played for Booker T. Washington.
“I knocked him off his feet,” Beck said Wednesday. “I’m pretty happy about that, watching him now on Saturdays.”
