McALESTER — Don’t be fooled by the Durant Lions’ 1-5 record: three of those losses came during non-district play, and the Lions had a chance to win all three.
“We were about three plays away from being 3-3,” Durant coach Byron Cordell said Thursday. “We just didn’t make the plays.”
When the 3-3 McAlester Buffaloes go to Paul Laird Field on Friday, they’ll get a Lions team that’s both physically healthy and mentally ready. And coming off a 57-20 loss to Memorial that featured seven Durant turnovers, the Lions will be hungry to prove themselves.
“The best two weeks of practice all year have been last week and this week,” Cordell said.
