McALESTER — Four round robin games for the Jr. Sunbelt Classic baseball tournament will take place this morning:
• At Eastern Oklahoma State College, Wilburton:
Tennessee vs. Oklahoma Gold, 9 a.m.
Canada vs. Colorado, 11:30 a.m.
• At Mike Deak Field, McAlester:
Mississippi vs. Arizona, 9 a.m.
Texas vs. Missouri, 11:30 a.m.
Here's how those games could impact the medal round this afternoon.
• Championship game, 8 p.m. in McAlester:
Texas has already clinched the top seed in the tournament. If Tennessee beats Oklahoma Gold, Tennessee's win over Georgia earlier in the tournament means Tennessee will play Texas for the championship.
If Oklahoma Gold wins this morning, Texas will play Georgia in the championship.
• Third-place game, 5:30 p.m. in McAlester:
If Tennessee beats Oklahoma Gold, Georgia will finish third in the standings and clinch one spot in the third-place game. If Oklahoma Gold wins, Tennessee will finish third.
An Oklahoma Gold win would mean Gold would finish fourth in the standings and play Tennessee third overall. If Oklahoma Gold loses and MIssissippi beats Arizona, Mississippi would play Georgia for third.
If Arizona beats Mississippi, Gold would automatically clinch fourth, as Gold beat Arizona earlier in the tournament and would have the tiebreaker win or lose.
• Fifth-place game, 3:30 p.m. in McAlester:
Either Oklahoma Gold or Mississippi will have one spot in the fifth-place game, the other playing in the third-place game. An Arizona win against Mississippi would guarantee Arizona the second spot in the fifth-place game, as would a Missouri loss.
Arizona has the tiebreaker against Colorado. Arizona and Missouri didn't play during the round robin, but with Missouri having allowed 62 runs in the tournament to Arizona's 26, Arizona would nead to give up at least 37 more runs than Missouri in their respective final games to not win the secondary tiebreaker and clinch the second spot in the fifth-place game.
