McALESTER — Friends of Maddie will sponsor a fundraiser Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday. The event will be co-hosted by Friends of Robbers Cave and the City of Wilburton Parks and Recreation Department.
The 36-hole event will include 18 holes in the morning at Robbers Cave Disc Golf Course at Robbers Cave State Park and 18 holes and lunch at the Wilburton FFA Disc Golf Course at Gary Rosebure Recreational Complex.
Entry fee is $25.00 per person, and there will be separate novice and veteran divisions. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each division.
A limited number of disc golf sets will be available for purchase at the Robbers Cave gift shop and at the Wilburton FFA Disc Golf course. This tournament is a friendly competition with the ultimate goal of raising money for the Friends of Maddie.
Maddie Sonagerra has cerebral palsy and is in need of additional equipment for her physical therapy. Maddie is 13 years old and a life long resident of Wilburton.
The Friends of Maddie group was founded to help raise the money for this special young woman to get the physical therapy she needs. Additional donations can be made at Wilburton State Bank under "For Benefit of Maddie Sonagerra."
Both disc golf courses are open and this tournament will be the inaugural event hosted at each course. Robbers Cave State Park built a nine-hole course below the swimming pool area.
The Wilburton FFA constructed a nine-hole course at the Gary Rosebure Recreational Complex in Wilburton. The Wilburton FFA Chapter, under the guidance of Leland Walker, built the holes, installed and painted them and secured an ORRC grant to fund the project.
Both courses opened for play in the fall of 2013.
Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m., and play begins at 10:30 at Robbers Cave. Each entrant will be given a score card that will entitle the player to lunch.
