Stuart came back Friday and beat Oilton, 5-0, to advance to the championship. Needing to beat Moss twice to get to State, Stuart won 11-1 and 14-5.
The Class B state fast-pitch tournament starts Thursday, with all games taking place at the Ball Fields at Firelake in Shawnee. Stuart plays Caney at 11 a.m., with a potential semifinal scheduled for Friday at 12 p.m. and the championship Saturday at 11 a.m.
Stuart hasn’t won a state baseball title since 1983. It hasn’t won a fast pitch tournament since 1964.
After losing 11-1 to Sulphur in Thursday’s first-round Regional game, Wilburton kept its postseason alive by beating Valliant in the loser’s semifinal, 6-5. That set up a rematch with Sulphur in Friday’s loser’s final, which Sulphur won, 7-4, to end the Lady Diggers’ postseason.
Wilburton’s football team will look for its first win Friday when it hosts Pocola.
