Savanna’s softball team dominated its Regional tournament at Ketchum, going 3-0. Savanna first beat Ketchum on Thursday, 10-0, then beat Wyandotte later that day, 8-4.
Wyandotte beat Ketchum in the losers’ final to get back to the championship Friday, but Savanna won again, this time 8-0, to return to State.
Savanna will play Tushka in the state quarterfinals on Thursday at the Ball Fields at Firelake in Shawnee — the site of the entire fast-pitch state tournament — at 1 p.m. A win could mean a semifinal against Wayne, which beat Savanna in the 2012 state championship, on Friday at 12 p.m., with the 2013 championship taking place Saturday at 3:45 p.m.
Savanna’s football team plays at Canadian on Friday. The Bulldogs are 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district play.
The Stuart Hornets started Thursday’s baseball Regional at Asher by beating Varnum, 5-3. Asher beat Moss in the other semifinal, then beat Stuart in the championship, 11-0, all on Thursday.
Moss beat Varnum in the loser’s semifinal on Friday, then Stuart beat Moss in the loser’s final later that day, 12-2, to qualify for State.
The Hornets will play Leedey in the state quarterfinals Thursday at 2 p.m. at Edmond North. A win means a semifinal against Red Oak or Olustee at Edmond Santa Fe on Friday at 6:30 p.m., with the championship taking place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
The Lady Hornets also had to battle to get to State, but they pulled it off, starting with a 13-4 win against Mason on Thursday at Moss. Moss beat Oilton in the other semifinal, 17-0, then beat Stuart in the winners’ final on Thursday, 15-10.
