Midweek Update: Savanna and Stuart make State

McALESTER — Regional softball and baseball tournaments took place over the weekend. Savanna’s softball team qualified for its third consecutive 2A state tournament, while both Stuart’s baseball and softball teams qualified for State for the first time in school history.

Stuart’s baseball team qualified for its second Class B state tournament in a row.

All scores reported are according to OSSAARankings.com.

Haileyville:

Coming off a loss at Savanna, Haileyville’s football team heads to Warner for Week 6 on Friday. The Warriors are 0-5 this season, their overall losing streak at 19.

Hartshorne:

Having shut out their second district opponent in a row, the Miners will host Hugo on Friday. With Hartshorne ranked second in the district and Hugo third, this game could go a long way towards earning Hartshorne at least a first-round home playoff game.

McAlester:

The Lady Buffs lost their final two softball games of the season, falling 7-6 to Sallisaw on Oct. 1 and 16-0 to Tahlequah on Thursday. The 14-20 Lady Buffs will head to Claremore on Thursday for Regionals, facing Skiatook at 2 p.m.

As Regionals are double-elimination, the Lady Buffs will need to win at least three games to advance to State. Claremore and Tulsa Memorial will be the two other teams at Regionals, playing each other at 12 p.m.

McAlester’s volleyball team played its Regional tournament at Tahlequah on Tuesday. The Lady Buffs played Tahlequah in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m., the winner facing the winner of Coweta-Skiatook at 7:30 p.m. for a trip to State.

McAlester’s football team will head to Tulsa on Friday to face winless Nathan Hale. Buffs coach Bryan Pratt said quarterback Dalton Wood will be in a boot this week after he suffered a high ankle sprain against Shawnee on Friday, so Caden Pratt will start at quarterback against Hale.
