WETUMKA — Five errors led to eight runs for Savanna in the second inning, and the Bulldogs held on to beat the Bison in four innings, 9-8, in Friday’s quarter-final of the Wetumka Spring Classic baseball tournament.
Clinging to an 8-7 lead to start the fourth, Savanna sophomore Ryan Weeks hit a 1-0 fastball over the wall in right-center field for a solo home run.. He also tripled to lead off the second inning, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The home run proved crucial, as Bulldogs reliever Colton Carano gave up a solo home run to Bowlegs’ Cullen Tatum to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Tatum also homered in the first inning off Weeks before Carano took over on the mound four batters into the game.
Carano loaded the bases with no outs before Savanna coach Gary Reeder brought in center fielder Kris Perry to pitch. Perry retired three consecutive Bison batters to maintain the lead, after which the umpires called the game due to time.
