Buffs trounce Knights in district doubleheader

McALESTER — McAlester pitcher Brandon Green struck out 10 in a five-inning one-hitter, and the Buffs’ offense pounded Northwest Klassen Knights pitcher Brandon Campbell for a 20-0 blowout win in the first game of a district doubleheader on Saturday at Mike Deak Field.

The Buffs also won their second game against the Knights in five innings, 25-0.

Buffs coach Jackie Cumbie had worked with his pitchers all week long on mixing up fastballs and changeups. The practice produced immediate results Saturday, with Green retiring three Knights batters in a row via the swinging strikeout.

The Buffs then scored nine runs in the bottom of the first to put the game away. Highlights from the inning included two separate RBI hits from Dalton Wood, a two-RBI single by Green and a two-RBI double by Zach Baugh.
