Trailing first-place Just For Fun by four points, Wimberley’s Furniture needed a big Week 20 on Thursday to climb back into the Mix & Mingle League at Great Balls of Fire in McAlester.
Wimberley’s Furniture got just what it needed, going 4-0 against Bednarck. Those three games included a 961 scratch game that turned into a 1,231 handicap game — both season-bests for the team that also broke season records for the league.
Chris Hoag and Lisa Williams played a big part in their team’s big game, setting personal bests with scores of 177 and 174, respectively. With their handicaps, Hoag scored a 261, and Williams a 274.
Wimberley’s Furniture still has some work to do to catch Just For Fun. Led by Floyd Anderson and his 9,465 pins, Just For Fun faced team Thunder, the team that won the first half but entered Week 20 ranked 11th out of 12, Thursday night.
“We’re just getting the breaks,” Anderson said, adding that it would take “an awful lot of luck” to stay in first.
