Weekend Update: McAlester Volleyball gets first win

McALESTER — KIOWA:

The Cowboys lost to the Crowder Demons on Aug. 20, 7-5, then lost to Smithville at the Carl Albert State College Classic Poteau on Saturday, 13-3. Kiowa hosted Clayton on Tuesday, entering the day with an 0-3 record.

The Cowgirls have played four games in the last week, splitting them 2-2. Kiowa lost to Savanna on Aug. 20, 5-0, beat Indianola on Thursday, 14-0, beat Stringtown on Friday, 8-1, and lost to Quinton on Monday, 2-1.

The Cowgirls played Stonewall on Tuesday and will play in the Pitt 8 Tournament on Thursday.

MCALESTER:

Lady Buffs softball beat Tulsa Edison in a district game on Aug. 20, 21-3, then traveled to Tahlequah for the Northeastern State University Tournament. McAlester beat Keys on Thursday, 10-0, and Henryetta on Friday, 5-2, then lost to Piedmont on Friday, 14-1.

McAlester rebounded to beat Locust Grove on Friday, 6-2, before losing to Henryetta on Sunday, 6-0. The Lady Buffs took a 6-4 record into Tuesday’s district game at Durant.

McAlester volleyball picked up its first win of the season, beating Okay on Friday, 3-2. The Lady Buffs lost their first two games, 25-10 and 25-20, but came back to win their next three and the match, 30-25, 25-18 and 15-11.

The Lady Buffs sandwiched two losses around the win, falling to Bixby on Thursday, 3-0, and to Berryhill at the Wagoner Tournament on Saturday, 2-0.

McAlester played Tahlequah Sequoyah on Tuesday and hosts Glenpool on Thursday.
