McALESTER — Not too many pitchers can say they’ve thrown a perfect game and a one-hitter in back-to-back outings. Even fewer can say they did so in a combined five innings of baseball.
McAlester senior Nick Clark is one of the few with such a singular accomplishment. He did it less than two weeks ago against Tulsa Central.
Considering Clark said he was “born a (Texas) Rangers fan,” perhaps that might have made him feel a bit closer to his idol, Rangers Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.
“I’ve tried to model myself after Nolan Ryan, but that’s too high of a standard,” Clark said Thursday. Of Ryan’s seven career no-hitters, Clark chuckled and said, “I got one of them out the way.”
