McALESTER — For McAlester senior Chad Aldridge, loyalty matters. His favorite baseball player is Chipper Jones, who’s been with the Atlanta Braves since reaching the majors in 1993.
Aldridge said he’s experienced that same loyalty, that same team spirit, with his Buffalo teammates. And as the regular season reached its halfway point on Friday, Aldridge has had to acknowledge that this group of friends will soon separate forever.
“It’s always hard when the season ends,” Aldridge said Thursday. He added that he’ll most miss “the camaraderie of it, the bonding experience, being with your friends.”
Aldridge has lived in McAlester all his life. His older brother Derek Simons, who’s now 29, played for the Buffaloes, and Aldridge himself began playing as a 6-year-old at the Boys & Girls Club.
“He was kind of my inspiration to play,” Aldridge said of his brother. “He’s always motivated to play, even in hard times. I wasn’t very big, and as I got bigger, he always told me to keep with it.”
